Hey Everyone,
So it's been a long time since I posted anything - I guess I've just been busy. Also, my computer hasn't been working so well, but mostly I have just been busy. This is basically my last week of class. I've taken three finals (passed all three) and have one more on Monday. Then I just have a general online test that I'll also take on Monday and I'm done! I am so happy because I found out that I have the 18th of from work so I will be leaving early that morning. I need to get home on Thursday so that I can go to the DMV on Friday and apply for a new license. I tried to apply for it by mail but the BMV here (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) wouldn't give me an eye exam so I have to wait until I get back home. I've really excited to see my family and friends again. I can't believe it's been four months! This semester has flown by, as usual. I have an idea of how I will spend my week at home and I think it's going to be fun. I hope to see as many people as possible, and hopefully everything works out.
Well I should get going. I have work in a little while and I should start heading out. I can't wait to see all of you over Christmas! <3

Life as we know it
Hello All,
So I've been at Plato's Closet for about two weeks now. I just got my first paycheck today which I was very excited about. It wasn't too big, but will be enough to help me out with some of my expenses. It will be great to have regular paychecks again. Now if my financial aid money will arrive this week I will be in very good shape. It's been really difficult lately trying to get gas and groceries and all that good stuff without the help of that money. I've been feeling bad lately because I've borrowed much more from my mother than I would ever like, but she's of course been gracious enough to allow it, which I very much appreciate. It will feel wonderful to be independent, though. I hate having to rely on other people for things that I should be taking care of myself.
As far as the new job goes, it really is great. I mostly organize the clothes in the store and make them look nice. Everything is separated by section, then by size, and then, yes, by color. So I go through sections piece-by-piece moving things to the right size or color section and making sure they are not falling off their hangers. I've also been able to do really fun things like add accessories to the displays and re-dress the mannequins for the new season. I really like the girls I work with and I'm always busy, which is great. The best part is that I get a great discount on clothes, AND I get first dibs on the new stuff that comes in. We are constantly buying things (seriously, we take in HUNDREDS of items each day) and we all get to look at them before they're put on the floor. I've only found a few things so far that I really like, but I haven't had the money to seriously shop yet, heh. I don't plan to go too crazy but it will be nice to get some new things in my closet. Especially because I don't have any clothes that look like the things the other girls wear to work. I might have to buy some girlier t-shirts in order to fit the bill. The manager doesn't really mind, I don't think, but it would be nice to sort of look the part. Plus, new clothes! :)
School is going fine as usual. It's ridiculously easy, though, which is sort of good and sort of bad. It's nice because I don't have to spend hours each night doing homework after I get home from work (right now I'm working around 30 hours a week and I don't think that will change too soon) but there is a definite downside as well. Back when I was going to the U, I was so used to having hours of reading and homework on the evenings and weekends that I never had time to lose motivation. Now, however, without the constant, time-consuming assignments and difficult tests, I find it easy to just do nothing. It's really weird, actually. With so little to do, you would think that it would be easy to complete the few readings that I have, but when I can ace the test without doing so, I simply don't do it. It's already the middle of the semester. I know that I've done assignments and read the books and taken the tests but I hardly remember doing so. I think it's just because the classes are so basic. Most of them are introductory classes and therefore aren't very intense. I think that will change next semester when, although the classes will be introductory, they will be pertaining to my field (classes like Baking Science, Intro to Baking, Pantry and Breakfast, etc.). So yeah, school's too easy, it's making me lazy, end of story.

My life just got infinitely better
Hey Everyone!
I am super excited right now because I just got a call from the manager at Plato's Closet and she offered me a job! I get to quit working at that awful JJ and work somewhere where they actually give me hours! She already has me scheduled to work 28 hours next week! I think last week I worked.....maybe 12 at JJ. They refuse to give me any hours or put me on an actual schedule. Plus I'm pretty sure the place is a festering pool of negative energy. Everyone's too busy to be nice or helpful, which I'm not OK with. I'm so happy that I was offered this other job. It sounds like it will be a really neat place to work. Yay! That's probably the best thing to happen to me since I came here. Although some random guy DID hit on me at the Goodwill the other day, but that was more awkward than anything else. :/
I did find some cute shoes there, though.
And uh, school is going pretty well. Classes are picking up which makes things nice and I think I've got a pretty good idea of how things are going to work for the semester. Most of my professors do things the same way every week which makes it easy to remember everything I need to do. So yeah, things are going well. I'll finally get a paycheck this Friday and although it won't be much it will still be something. Go life!

First Week
Hello All,
So last week was my first week of classes. They went pretty well as far as I am concerned and I think I will enjoy most of them. I already have a paper due on the 9th of September so I'll have to get working on that somewhat soon. It will be nice to get back in the swing of things after my summer vacation but right now I'm also wishing I were still doing nothing. I worked yesterday and it was my first day of actual work, although it wasn't exciting in the least. I cleaned a lot of things while I was there and I wrapped a few sandwiches but that was all. I was only there for two hours which sucked because I didn't make any money. Tomorrow I will be going in for four hours which is good, and we'll see how it goes. The people there seem really nice and friendly so I don't think I'm going to have any problems as long as I can remember what goes on all the sandwiches and make them quickly enough. I guess the goal is to have the sandwich to the customer 30 seconds after they order, which is pretty damn quick. I haven't made any actual sandwiches yet but I'm sure I will do that tomorrow. Blah, blah, blah, I know this is really exciting to read.
Well I think I might go for a bike ride. I want to check out the library here in town and it's only about seven blocks away so I might as well take my bike. Hope all is going well for all you readers out there. Take care until next time!

New Job
Hey Everyone,
I'm happy to say that I start my new job on Wednesday. Today I went in to Jimmy John's to take a test on their menu, and it was super intense. The guy just gave me a blank piece of paper and I basically had to recreate the menu on it. I did fine, although I missed a few things and I don't quite know all the numbers of the subs yet, and he said I could come in on Wednesday. So yay! New job! I'm excited. I hope that it goes well and that I can get a lot of hours.
And school starts tomorrow. Yikes! I don't have any of my books yet because I haven't gotten my loan money but I think it will be fine. I'm definitely ready to start classes again this year but I'm also a bit nervous about being at a new school. I suppose it's not that different from every semester at the U, since I had new people in my classes every semester, but it still feels different. I'm pretty optimistic at this point and I'm sure everything will go just fine.

All Settled In
I finally moved in to my new apartment last weekend. My mom and I drove down together on Friday morning and it took us about 15 hours to get to South Bend. It was a long, long drive and we were very happy when we arrived. While I had packed my car full to the brim, I didn't have any furniture with me except a small bookcase. My mom and I slept on the floor both Friday and Saturday night, and on Sunday we opted to buy an air mattress since I wasn't having any luck finding a regular bed. I think we went to about a hundred garage sales over the weekend and I now have a pretty cool place. We got all the furniture that I absolutely needed, and we also found some cool stuff for my kitchen, not to mention an extremely awesome bicycle.
My mom left Monday night and this has been my first day alone in the apartment. It hasn't been that exciting, I must say, but I did get down the the school and I got registered for classes and figured out some financial aid stuff. I'm having a bit of a dilemma now, however, because I don't know if I can afford to keep my cat. I got the forms today that I need to fill out in order to keep him, and there are a lot of stipulations that need to be fulfilled in order to have a pet. I'm going to try to decide tonight if I will keep him, otherwise I think I will bring him to an adoption shelter that I found in South Bend.
Hopefully I will get some pictures up in the near future. My mom took some while she was here and she should be sending them to me soon, so I will post them as soon as I can. Until next time, ciao.

Bittersweet
Well, today has been quite an interesting day. It was really sad because it was my last day of work but it was also really exciting because I finally feel like I'm getting ready to move. I finally found an apartment in South Bend and it's right downtown, about a mile from my school. I'm hoping that I will be able to bike to school for a good part of the year and possibly bike or walk to my work as well, depending on where it is. Once again I'm getting very, very excited to move, and I feel like doing so this very second. It's already been hard having to say goodbye to my wonderful coworkers, and to all the fun times I've had at MLAC, and I know it's going to be just as difficult to leave my friends and family. I do think, however, that this upcoming adventure is just exciting enough to offset the sadness, or at least enough to keep me from planting my feet firmly in Minnesota and refusing to leave (which I really have felt like doing this past week, especially yesterday). I'm really looking forward to going to culinary school and I know that the baking industry is where I want to be. I really hope that I like South Bend and that it will be a good fit for me. I guess I'll know in a few weeks.

Close to Freedom
I am only one day away from being done with school for the year. I'm still in Minneapolis at the moment so that's why I haven't really written anything. I think I will be moving to Indiana in August, so not for a few months yet. I hope to have enough money saved up by then to drive down there and pay for everything that I need for two months. I don't think I will have a problem saving the money. I only have $900 right now (I need about $2500) but by the end of this week it could be $1200, which would be amazing. Either way, I'm going to work for two months before leaving and that should be plenty of time to save the rest.
I hope that once I get to Indiana I can actually make use of this thing. I want to be able to post pictures and keep everyone updated without having to tell the same thing to a hundred people. Well anyhow, I guess I just wanted to actually write something in this since I started it. Hopefully I'll have more interesting things to say in the months to come. Take care!
